The pilot and instructor
behind Datum

Built Around Aviation

Datum Aeronautics was created from a simple belief: aviation education should be practical, personalized, and genuinely enjoyable.

As a Commercial Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor, I enjoy helping pilots turn knowledge into confidence, whether they're taking their first steps toward a certificate, working toward an advanced rating, preparing for a checkride, or simply looking to become a more capable pilot.

My approach to aviation is also shaped by a background in engineering, manufacturing, and quality. I naturally look at problems through the lens of systems, precision, and continuous improvement. I bring that same mindset into the cockpit and the classroom.

Why I Teach

One of the things I enjoy most about aviation is that there is always something new to learn. Every flight presents an opportunity to make a better decision, refine a skill, or understand something a little more deeply.

I started Datum Aeronautics to share that mindset with other pilots. Good instruction isn't simply about checking boxes or memorizing answers for a checkride. It's about understanding why things work, developing sound aeronautical decision making, and building the confidence to apply that knowledge when it matters.

Whether you're preparing for your first solo or pursuing an advanced certificate, my goal is to make the process practical, meaningful, and rewarding.

My Journey in Aviation

My aviation journey began with an introductory flight at age 12. I was immediately hooked. The proverbial “aviation bug” had bitten, and it never really went away.

Life and career took me in other directions for a while, but aviation remained a constant theme. Alongside a career in aviation engineering & manufacturing, and operations management, I continued working toward the next milestone in my own aviation journey.

2003 — First Flight at the Controls

2018 — Private Pilot

2021 — Instrument Rating

2023 — Commercial Pilot

2026 — Certified Flight Instructor

How Did Datum Get Its Name?

Datum is a word with a special meaning in both engineering and aviation. That connection is at the heart of Datum Aeronautics.

In manufacturing, engineering, and quality control, a datum is an established reference point, line, or surface from which measurements are made and relationships are defined. It provides a consistent starting point for designing, building, and verifying something with precision.

Aviation has its own version of the concept. In aircraft weight and balance, the datum is the established reference point from which the location of an aircraft's weight is measured. Every calculation starts from that reference.

I liked the parallel connection. Whether you're building a part of an aircraft or learning to fly one, having the right reference point matters.

Datum Aeronautics is built around that idea: establish where you are, understand where you want to go, and use a solid foundation of knowledge and experience to chart the course forward.

Still Learning. Still Flying.
Still Advancing.

Aviation has grown alongside my professional career, not apart from it. The same engineering mindset, attention to detail and quality, problem-solving, and continuous-improvement philosophy I've developed throughout my career now shape the way I approach flying and instruction.

The journey is far from over, and that's what makes aviation so rewarding.

Let's Fly Forward
